I want everyone who reads this to ask me 4 questions. Any 4, no matter how personal, dirty, private, or random. I have to answer them honestly. In turn, you have to post this message in your own journal, and you have to answer the questions that are asked of you

Alright I have a new community called softball_advice. You have to be a member though and post your application for approval. Hope some of you join. It will offer: weight training, psychological advice, defense and offense advice, specified position advice, conditioning advice and whatever else I can share. If you are a member and you have questions you can post them and they will be answered in the next post. I figured I'd leave you guys space in here instead of posting huge entries lol.

Hope y'all come!!

Blah Blah Blah [Jan. 31st, 2005|11:03 am]
A Community For The Girls Who Love Softball

I'm bored as a mother fucker so I thought I'd give a holla to the girls in here. so...HOLLA!

Anyways, we start games in about 2 1/2 weeks. YEA!!!! I'm pscyhed. We start out in Arizona so I get to go somewhere warm for once. The midwest can really suck sometimes.

I'm taking a coaching class at my college and it's kick ass. I worked with the professor and came up with an awesome weight lifting program. It's very basic but it works cause it's the program I had at my other school.

Another thing someone asked about getting your legs stronger without them bulking up. Ok number one if ur a catcher you're going to have bigger thighs or bigger legs in general. Get over it. But if you want the maximum training for your legs then what you need to work on is muscular endurance. Squats are a necessity and not the sitting down ones. You need a spotter and a 45 pound bar. Find out what your max is then slowly do a build up. A very good leg workout that I recommend is doing power cleans. I think that's what they're called. Anyways it's where you take a 45 pound bar (if ur just starting don't do it with ANY more weight than that, it's hard for me to do more than that) and set it on the ground in front of you. Bend down in the athletic stance which means facing forward, bending at the knees and ur butt should stick out. It's not the most attractive position but once again...get over it. Grab the bar and go back to your athletic stance. This should be a very fluid motion....using your body and shoulders bring the bar up chest level. It should seem to float up and then you throw your hands under it and lift it over your head. I know this sounds complicated so if you get confused ask your coach to show you how it's done. And if they dont know what it is (which they should or they're not a very effective coach) then ask someone who does. A football coach should know. This workout is very effective. Another one you should do is squats with no weights. What I mean by that is get down in your catchers stance and for 30 seconds at a time jump up and down. You have to make sure you get down to your stance and keep jumping. Take a minute break then do it again for 30 seconds.

Remember, it's not really how big your legs get...it's how long they can go. I can go about 7 games before I start feeling major fatigue. So that's about 12 hours of continuous ball playing. Hope any of this helps. If you have anymore questions then feel free to hit me up.

If any of you want I can post the weight training program in another post. Also, I have good tips for the psychological aspect of the game.

If I'm annoying any of you by seeming to "coach" you guys it's ok to tell me. I'm not here to annoy or seem like I know it all (cause I don't I'm still learning) but most of this is from experience and me learning where I went wrong, and hopefully you can prevent my mistakes.

Have a great season ladies :)

Hit me up!

I feel so old [Dec. 27th, 2004|10:50 pm]
A Community For The Girls Who Love Softball

I haven't posted in forever it seems but I leave alot of comments. Here's my intro:

Jessica (aka Jess)
19 years old
Sophmore in College
5'9" tall, 190 lbs
Bench 150, Squat nearly 200
Starter for Iowa Wesleyan College (small D1)
Used to play for University Wisconsin Parkside (med. D2)

I know alot of you are young in here, and have questions about college, and what to choose, and how to get recruited. Well, I'm full of information. I've been there, done that, and back again lol. I've played for two colleges, was an all conference player, and four year starter for my high school varsity softball team.

Here's the kicker. I started playing ball when I was 13. I didn'tplay for a year cause I SUCKED!! I got pissed off so for that whole year I worked my ass off. I came back the next year and shocked everyone. At age 14 I had the fastest arm in the conference, and was even being looked at by college.

I have been recruited to numerous schools, including some in Maine, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota.

Here are a few tips:

If you play ball in Minnesota alot of the pitchers focus on rise balls and are good at em ;)

Illinois girls are known for nasty curve balls and wicked fast balls. That's usually further south.

Got questions on how to be recruited? I have a few tips.

Want to know how to improve your catching? I have many tips. Also, for pitchers, I have tips for you too on how to make your relationship with your catcher benefit your pitching.

Catchers, make sure you baby your pitchers. If they want water, GET IT! Watch their pitches and their form. Learn how they pitch so you can spot something wrong. Make sure you have good communication with them also. If somethign is wrong, make sure you know about it. OH yea and if ur gay...DONT DATE YOUR PITCHERS!! THATS A NO NO!

Tips for infielding, I have a few.

Tips for batting I have alot.

Feel free to hit me up with acomment or im me. All my info is in my profile.

L8r girls! KICK SOME ASS!!
